    Amazingly unique
Mmm… this book/cd is amazing. Bradley brings together spoken word, poetry, and emotions together in such a way that draws a person to contemplative thought.

I’ve heard it and enjoyed it quite a bit. I don’t think it’s fair to say that he isn’t Christian. I think that one would have to know him to decided that instead of relying on interpreting his work.

bradley hathaway is a very unique person. he can see the good in almost anything. he see it the way it was supposed to be, so often his poetry and songs seem… a little … well not of god. but that’s just because he sees things differently than most people. At least that’s my interpretation of him. i heard him talk about this some at cornerstone festival and i think that’s what he was try to say. i could be wrong. like i said, he’s very unique. but i think he’s definatley a christian.

    Lord, You know how much
I want to know so much
In the way of answers and explanations
    I have cried and prayed
And still I seem to stay
In the middle of life’s complications
All this pursuing leaves me feeling like I’m chasing down the wind
But now it’s brought me back to You
    And I can see again
    This is everything I want
    This is everything I need
I want this to be my one consuming passion
    Everything my heart desires
Lord, I want it all to be for You, Jesus
    Be my magnificent obsession
    So capture my heart again
Take me to depths I’ve never been
Into the riches of Your grace and Your mercy
    Return me to the cross
And let me be completely lost
In the wonder of the love
    That You’ve shown me
Cut through these chains that tie me down to so many lesser things
Let all my dreams fall to the ground
    Until this one remains
    You are everything I want
And You are everything I need
Lord, You are all my heart desires
    You are everything to me
    You are everything I want
    You are everything I need
I want You to be my one consuming passion
    Everything my heart desires
Lord, I want it all to be for You
I want it all to be for You

If you want to know the history of the song, here it is. Steven chapman has 3 young adopted daughters from china. He was trying to bathe two of them one day, after a particularly hard day at work, but all his girls wanted to do was to dance and dress up in their fairytail outifts. Everytime he turned around, they would jump out of the bath and get dressed up in their outfits. One was cinderella, one was snow white. After finally bathing them and putting them to bed, he thought of his biological oldest daughter (Emily), who is now getting married. The song is basically about cherishing every moment with your daughters, because they grow up so fast and find their “prince”.
He wrote this song approximately 2 years ago. But about 2 weeks ago, the daughter who inspired the song, Marie-Sue, died in an accident, 10 days after her 5th birthday. It was Emily’s engagement party, and one of the oldest son’s graduation party. As the son was leaving, he accidently ran over his little sister in the driveway of their home, and she died a few hours later. This only happened a few weeks ago from today…its very sad. She was only 5 years old
To answer your question – I love this song. It is traditionally father-daughter dance. And yes, it is about handing your daughter off to her prince. I love your idea of having it first! Traditionally, the bride and groom dance first. However, you are right, this song is about her father dancing one last time with his daughter, before handing her off to her prince. I think break tradition! Have the father daighter dance first, and then have her father hand his daughter over to her prince. It is very fitting, unique, and I love it!
This is acutally my father-daughter dance at my upcoming wedding. Now I think I might have to steal this idea from you! It is fantastic, and very fitting.

It is the saddest story, honostly, I think I have ever heard. I live in the same part of TN that it happened in and I have friends that are close with the boy that accedentily hit her.
Ever since I heard about the story it is all I can think about. Chills run up my body just imagining what the teen boy must be going through.
There was a prayer vidgel for her the night it happened, visitation was tonight, and the funeral is tommorow.

I almost want to play this for my first dance with my fiance this coming june 28th! Do you think it would be approiate?
You are right on the bride/groom for the first dance. I think it should be a great song for the father/daughter dance! But I still think I may have to play this for my first dance. It is so sweet, emotional, loving and etc!!!!

I LOVE this song. Traditionally, the bride and groom dance 1st. But its okay to change it up a little bit. It would be so romantic to have this song as the 1st dance, but then have the 2nd dance be the bride and groom’s dance, because the 1st song is all about handing her off to someone else. I love it!

actually, he has THREE adopted daughters, along with three older children…. and she was not “run over”, but struck. [but I digress....]
I have been mourning this loss since I heard of the tragedy from a friend who had the rescue helicopter land in his backyard. I can’t even BEGIN to imagine what the Chapmans are going through these heart-breaking days! I just thank God that they have the great Comforter to cling to… for there would be no other way to survive something like this!
I was with the Chapman boys just a month ago… they are so amazing, RESPONSIBLE and kind-hearted… I just shake my head when people’s first response is to lay blame for such a tragic *accident*. It’s really quite heart-less. It takes only a mere split-second for a child to run behind a car. IN FACT, it’s so common, it’s called the “Bye Bye Syndrome”. [see link below.]
The Chapman family has been in my prayers since long before this and will *continue* to be in my prayers for a long time coming, no doubt………

  218. Thunderm on July 30th, 2009 1:32 pm

I hate to say it, but this sounds a bit irresponsible to me. I am paranoid with my daughter when she is outside. I am always watching, on guard, and don’t let her go where she could potentially get injured. I think the Chapman’s were getting a little lax or something? And what’s up with a boy who isn’t watching where he’s going to run over a girl with an SUV? And how closely was the little girl being watched? Someone should be answering a lot of questions. You can’t just blame everything on a terrible accident and leave it at that. If they were that careless once, how about the next time? They adopt a little baby from China, attempt to give her a good home, and she gets killed (run over). A lot of good it did for them to bring her over if they couldn’t protect her. Don’t get me wrong, I like Steven Curtis Chapman and I am a Christian too. But this makes me angry when avoidable tragedies happen. You have to be VERY careful with young children. It’s different than adults, or even teens. The young children are not responsible enough to protect themselves from harm. Their parents or custodians ARE and they are responsible for their well being!!!

The two opening bands did their thing (Kutless and Stellar Kart; i forget whose with the Newsboys now) and then their was a break. The Newsboys part was shorter than i hoped. But overall i would say about 3 hours. Have fun!!

However, you MUST get Rich Mullins “SONGS”…it was the first one my husband got, and it was worth every penny – it has awesome songs like ‘creed’ and ‘awesome God’ (among others)…it is really too bad Mulliens died in a car wreck back around 97-98…I have seen him perform on You Tube, and he was a very humble, funny man!
Another group you might want to check out, is anything by Petra – they are sooooo awesome, and around the same time period as the ones you mentioned.
    Good luck and bless you!

    Lyrics to Reality :
    Mom & Dad,
I’m fine. How are you? I have joined a
small circus (that much is true). I’m a
little malnourished, but try to relax.
Could you find a better photo for the milk
    carton backs?
    Send money.
    Runaway
    where’s your head?
    dreamers’ dreams
    are grounded
    Chorus
    in reality
    that comes from above
    God is calling
    there’s no bigger love
It’s his reality that welcomes us back
    Trust and obey
    there is no other way
    Mom & Dad,
I’m fair. How’s life? Lent the money you
sent me to the clown with the knife. My
career as an acrobat hasn’t begun, but
I’m busy giving blood and shoveling
    elephant dung.
    Send money.
    Runaway
    Why so tense?
    dreamers’ dreams
    will make sense
    - Chorus -
    Runaway
    blowing smoke
    your folks are worried
    (and going broke)
    after the fall
    is an all-new episode
    reality
    is the high road
    - Chorus -
    Hope this helped!

maybe around wherever he says “the truth shall set you free?” but i don’t know where that part is either

  279. scotgirl on July 31st, 2009 6:41 pm

    paraphrases of Biblical texts:
“Do you want to be free” idea appears in many different places in the Bible:
When Jesus took up the scroll in the temple and read from the words of the prophet Isaiah (Luke 4:17-21), He read this far:
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor;he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted,to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind,to set at liberty them that are bruised,to preach the acceptable year of the Lord. Isaiah 61: 1-2a
Then He closed the book, returned it to the minister, and sat down. All eyes were upon Him, and He told them,
This day is THIS scripture fulfilled in your ears.
    Isaiah 61:1
    The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, Because the LORD has anointed me To bring good news to the afflicted; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to captives And freedom to prisoners;
18″The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, 19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor Luke 4:18-19
“I hold the key:” could refer to “hold captivity captive,” part of a Messianic prophecy.http://www.bible-history.com/messianicpr…
And –”All power on heaven and earth belong to me” might have been taken from Revelations: “Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, wisdom, riches and strength,” OR perhaps from the Psalms: “The Earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof.”
And here in Christ’s own words is where he says that he has been given all authority : http://www.christswords.com/blog/2005/07…

    Up to my ears
    In bitter tears.
Can’t believe I’ve sunk this low
    As I walk the plankton
    Inner sanctum.
    Got outta Dodge,
    Sailed on a bon-less
    Bon voyage.
    You said North,
    I headed South.
    Tossed overboard.
    Good Lord, that’s a really large mouth…
    I’m sleeping with fishes here,
In the belly of the whale.
    I’m highly nutritious here,
In the belly of the whale.
    Bad food, lousy atmosphere.
    I don’t wanna bellyache.
How long is this gonna take?
Woke up this morning kinda blue,
    Thinking through that age-old question:
How to exit a whale’s digestion?
It might behoove me to be heaved.
Head out like a human comet.
Hmmm… i wonder what rhyme with comet.
    I’m sleeping with fishes here,
In the belly of the whale.
    I’m highly nutritious here,
In the belly of the whale.
    I’m ready to reappear.
    I don’t wanna bellyache.
Lord, how long’s this gonna take?
End times, they come rolling around.
Enzymes, they come breaking us down to the core.
The good Lord grants we all get a second chance.
I’m one of the dishes here,
In the belly of the whale.
    They say I’m delicious here,
In the belly of the whale.
Lord, please make him chuck it all.
    It’s a gut call
In the belly of the whale.
I’m in the belly of the whale.
In the belly of the whale.
    I’m in the belly.
In the belly of the whale.
I’m in the belly of the whale.
In the belly of the whale.
    I’m in the belly…
In the belly of the whale
    In an underwater jail
    It’s a tight squeeze.

First off. I am assuming you are going to put this up somewhere on the internet.
Well, copyright infringement for songs is well, in the millions of dollars. Its against the law to use a song that is not yours.
Second, if you didn’t take the photo of the person about to jump, the fine for using the photo without the express written permission of the photographer is $250,000 per photo plus jail time.
Welcome to the wonderful world of copyright law.

  336. lululees on August 1st, 2009 3:53 pm

I think 1984 was the year that Peter Furler (Newsboys lead singer who wrote the song) finished high school. I assume the song is about his life changing experience of becoming saved that summer (he was saved at 17 so I’m drawing conclusions). RSL is a sort of club in Australia that supports and commemorates their war veterans but the club buildings themselves have bars and dining areas and are sometimes related to sports. Mooloolaba is where Newsboys got their start and obviously he is talking about surfing in one part of the song. I *think* by “I kissed the floor” he is talking about drinking quite heavily. The song, I believe, talks about how God transformed Peter and called him to ministry in music.

  337. ☮♥:) hn on August 1st, 2009 4:09 pm

I heard about it too. I would assume that they are only playing christmas songs, but to lengthen the concert, they might add a few non-christmas songs in there. I would say probably only christmas sings, but u never k!

This certainly is a tragedy for the entire Chapman family. O have always loved Steven & his music, and I always loved the adoption ministery him & his wife founded. His girls are so beautiful, and to lose little Maria is incredibly sad. Being a relatively new teen driver myself, and a person who LOVES kids, I cannot imagine how Maria’s big brother is feeling right now. It was purely an accident, making the guilt and sadness even more painful. The family is definitely in my prayers.
God is in control, and He has a plan for this family!
p.s. thanks for correcting the ages :) I hate it when the news messes things up to make people look bad.

I grew up listening to his music and always enjoyed him as an artist. . . .but face of the matter is Christian or not. . .it doesn’t matter. . . he is a father. . . .I can’t even imagine the loss they must be feeling.
I can only imagine the people making the stupid comments do not have any children. . . .one couldn’t possibly feel the depth of love of a parent for a child and say the things that have been said.

A personal note to all you atheists. If this is your idea of sympathy and compassion, to point out what the 15 year old did wrong, what the 5 year old did wrong, or to use this as a soap box to point out how disillusioned spiritual people are… if you are an example of what mankind will be like without God, you can take you belief systems and shove it.

about the same as the saying: the straw that broke the camel’s back.
It’s not the last straw, it’s that everything else which was packed on its back brought it so close to the breaking point so the event which does break it can be minor as it is just the last in a long chain of events.

This family has a heart for children. It’s a tradgey..and the fact that they were not only outspoken and financially supported families that needed funds to adopt does make this adoption related.
So many of us were inspired by Steven and Mary Beth to take the step to adopt. We went to his concert and it had EVERYTHING to do with adoption. It was through his encouragement we stepped out of our comfort zone to adopt. Now we have 3 more beautiful daughter through adoption. My heart breaks for the family. . . for the son who will always have that guilt hanging over his head.

My husband just called from work and told me about this. What a horrible tragedy, whether she was adopted or not! We have a 4 year old son, and we are forever telling him to NEVER go into the garage or on the driveway when someone is either backing in or out, because they can’t see him–same for in the parking lots. I agree with the poster who said the automotive industry needs to do something about the blind spots in vehicles, but there is only so much they can do.
Horrible, horrible tragedy. My prayers go out to the family.

This is so sad but really doesn’t have anything to do with the child being adopted. In Texas a week or so ago a 17 month child was ran over at a garage sale. I feel for the teenager but this is not his fault. I have always taught my children to watch out for others and now they know where their child is at all times just becasue they are 5 doesn’t mean they can’t get hurt. Just the other day on the news a 7 year old little boy was walking to a friends house and a pack of pit bull dogs killed him. After all this you just need to ask why wasn’t the parent walking the child to the friends house. This is a sad fact child no matter adopted or not need to be watched.

I am praying for their family as they are going through this diffcult time. I hope the son that did this can get over it and not be so hard on himself I hope he remembers that is was just an accident and sometimes accidents just do not turn out the way we would like it to.

And yes, I want to adopt children. I told my husband I want to go to Burkina Faso, Nigeria, or Rwanda, and adopt a couple children. He says no way, but I’m hoping he’ll change his mind.
He did at least say okay to us running a foster home once we’re back in the States and settled in. I guess that’s better than nothing.

As for this man of God losing his child.I just pray the good Lord comforts them at this difficult time,i dont know how i would cope with it dont know if i could but if we cling to the Lord even in our most darkest hour He is always faithful to bring us through.Sometimes the people the Lord places in our lives but only for a while before He takes them back but never without purpose…He has seen it fit to bring this lil child home now.I just ask the Lord to see this family through this…please Lord….

  430. nashgirl on August 3rd, 2009 6:59 am

not that it matters, BUT… actually, his sons are 17 & 18… NOT 15… and they are amongst the most responsible, kind-hearted teenage boys you’d ever be lucky enough to meet!! How DARE you (not the questioner, but some of the answerers) even BEGIN to blame the family for this tragic ACCIDENT!!! Seriously. You are a great example of why this world needs a Savior…..
Steven has had over TWENTY YEARS of simply AMAZING ministry… he’s one of the most generous, tender souls… I can’t IMAGINE such a tragedy, but I thank GOD it has happened to a family who is so close to the almighty Comforter…. I can’t even begin to imagine someone having to go through this without Him!
I don’t remember the exact quote, but I was talking with someone about this last night and she was speaking of how God could use this tragic event to bring more light to this ministry, possibly increasing support for Shaohannah’s Hope (SCC’s adoption ministry) and drawing people closer to the great Comforter, themselves……. only God could take such a tragedy and use it for [ultimate] good!

  443. Sudz on August 3rd, 2009 9:32 am

Absolutely, why do you think God loved David so much, I am not saying God plays favorites but David was a psalmist, and a psalm is a sacred song or poem used in worship. It was through this medium that David connected with God. Even after he failed and as a King through adultery with Bathsheba and ordered the murder of her husband, he prayed to be restored in the eyes of the people with psalms. He fervently felt the and prayed about the rift this caused in his relationship with God. He pleaded with God, please do not let them mock me. His sin was out there. He repented in psalm, he confessed how sin had impacted him and we read about the torment and anguish of this great psalmist. I even have my favorite psalms which I love to sing at times of trouble and in times of great joy. Oh, how great our God is, how great he loves, and even after sinning, we see how swift God is to forgive sins and blot out our iniquites. God loved David so much that it was because of this that God even was more merciful to Solomon. He continued to be disobedient to God but God said he would not let him see his punishment in his lifetime, it would happen after his death. So, yes worship and praise God with the heart of a psalmist.
In addition, the word of God, reads that the nation that praises Him in worship, He will set free.
He release the Isrealites from slavery saying “Let my people go, so that they may worship me.”
Specific Levitical Priests sole annointed and assigned purpose was singing before the throne of God.
    2 Chronicles 31:2
[ Contributions for Worship ] Hezekiah assigned the priests and Levites to divisions—each of them according to their duties as priests or Levites—to offer burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, to minister, to give thanks and to sing praises at the gates of the LORD’s dwelling.
    Worshiping strengthens the church
    1 Corinthians 14:26
The Holy Spirit decends upon us when we are worshiping
    The Book of Acts
I understand how you feel about some of the Atheists on here; however, everyone in the universe starts his journey in life unsaved. Remember, to keep your face towards Jesus, not towards men. Stay in keeping with the fruits of the Holy Spirit written in Galatians 5;22-23.

You can hear Steven explaining the song on his website:

    http://www.stevencurtischapman.com/radio/videostoryofcinderella.htm

Basically it’s about making the most of the time he has with his children while they are growing up, not letting work or other things getting the way before they are grown up, married and “gone”

It becomes especially powerful and meaningful in that a few months after he wrote and recorded the song, his youngest daughter, Maria (age 5), was killed in a tragic accident at their home.

Steven now changes the words when he sings this song in concert. The final line of the song he changes to “… the clock will strike midnight, but we know the dance will go on.” He explains that because of his hope in Christ, he knows he will see Maria again and dance with her in heaven, even though for now she is gone from his arms.

A great song with a great message.

Lee, stop abusing the atheists (even if you do think they’re low lifes) – just ask them nicely, it’s better. I don’t suppose they’ll take any notice, so we’ll just have to put up with them, because we have a job to do. So, take some advice, do it gracefully!
It’s interesting you ask this question, because it seems to me that ‘worship’ has grown to be such an enormous part of – especially young people’s – Christianity these days, that one begins to get the message that this could also be another form of prayer.
No, I think prayer is prayer and worship is worship. There may be ‘worshipful prayer’ and also ‘prayerful worship’ but – properly speaking – the two are separate and you shouldn’t let one thing take over the other in your Christian life. I suspect it does, actually, in many a young Christian’s life, when he finds it easier to listen to these religious pop songs, rather than go to God personally in prayer.
Why is that? Well, because prayer is less easy, and less passive, and less easily done along with your friends. It’s easy to just plug in and let the ‘nice feelings’ flow, but it doesn’t grow us. In fact, I actually think it deceives us, because we think we’re so spiritual, having ‘built the house and done all the decorations’, but in fact we haven’t really laid the ‘boring old foundations’, have we?
I call this stuff ‘youth culture’ and it is very attractive to our Christian youth, who think they are so ‘cutting edge’. All because they don’t like to see the truth of the matter, that in fact they are ’spiritual babes’ who want to lead and not follow.
Sooner or later, the ‘entertainment’ has to stop, because the youth are getting nowhere. Sooner or later, each one is going to have to grapple with his God in quiet places, without any background music, and then he’ll know the state of his heart. We all have a ‘lazy streak’ in us, but the Holy Spirit will root it out, if we allow him.

  462. eep on August 3rd, 2009 4:17 pm

Great CD- Great songs! Take some rock, some pop, some country and a some great harmonies, stir them together and you have 33 Miles. They “go the distance”.

  467. Daniel on August 3rd, 2009 5:52 pm

Please don’t talk down to others. I believe Christians already have a bad enough rap for being “holier-than-thou” and we don’t need to exemplify it any more.
    To answer your question:
I believe it certainly can be a form or prayer. Prayer simply means a spiritual connection or communication. That means that if you are singing to God, then you are technically praying to him (although I believe the better word would be worshiping).

John James is not dead lol. He is alive and well and lives somewhere in Queensland, Australia where he is from (same place where Newsboys got their start). He left the band in the fall of ‘97 due to a drug and alcohol problem, but got his life back in order and is now involved in full time ministry as a Christian motivational speaker. He travles around much of Australia, New Zealand, the U.S. and Europe speaking to young people and sharing his awesome testimony. He did an interview telling about why he left the band and all, just Google, “John James Newsboys”. Hope this helps. You can also keep up with what he’s doing now @ http://www.cre8ivereach.com .

by the way, a former Newsboys member did die back in 2000, Kevin Mills, he played bass for them for about a year and a half back in the early 90’s.

Well thank you for explaining who he was and what it was all about. I had heard a few stories, but what I was hearing was that his son had murdered his daughter.
By the sounds of it I’d say it was simply a tragedy, no relation to her adoption or abuse in any way.

    1. I would say yes, presuming that the lyrics really are God-honoring. There is an awful lot of unscriptural material present in Contemporary Christian Music. Personally, I think that the traditional hymns of the Church are more theologically sound.
    2. There is no good reason to bait atheists and call them names. That sort of behaviour makes Jesus very sad.

  500. augenbli on August 4th, 2009 3:13 am

Before I start, I’ll admit that I’ve been a Five Iron Frenzy fan for years, and my answer may carry some bias. I’m not here to convert other fans to Five Iron Frenzy, but am simply stating my honest opinion.
Of the bands listed, I prefer Five Iron Frenzy based on:
Lyrical content – Reese Roper(lead vocals) is the primary lyricist for the band, and I love his poetic style.
    examples:
On Distant Shores – a song about failing on your own, and the renewing strength of Christ. http://www.seeklyrics.com/lyrics/Five-Iron-Frenzy/Distant-Shores.html
World Without End – about God, and our ability to have a relationship with him.
    http://www.seeklyrics.com/lyrics/Five-Iron-Frenzy/World-Without-End.html
Superpowers – an example of a silly song, driven by not so silly ideas.
    http://www.seeklyrics.com/lyrics/Five-Iron-Frenzy/Superpowers.html
Five Iron Frenzy has written their share of goofy, funny songs, but they also have a serious side. I’ve found that some songs are entirely serious, perhaps even gloomy or sorrowful(Spartan, New Year’s Eve), while other songs are either a mix(Superpowers, I Feel Lucky) or silly in their entirety(Oh Canada, You Probably Shouldn’t Move Here). The lyrics are intelligent, poetic, and sometimes require a bit of thought or interpretation, which I prefer.
Musical ability – The band’s discography includes many well written songs. Some example include:
from the early days – A Flowery Song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQTyjatRw5Q
    Every New Day http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YRsJ3YcLK3s
mid career – All that is Good http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EKhjlLA0Uko
    late career –
See the Flames Begin to Crawl http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JVK_uRik9CU
    On Distant Shores http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BI3ItBRos-s
There is not really a “weak link” musician in the band, as all are adept at their own instruments. The guitar, drums, horn section, and vocals that comprise Five Iron Frenzy are all exceptional.
    Their stage presence/band personality
The band was known for their live performances, and dressing up on stage. They exhibit a sense of humor on stage, and are well known for their goofiness and how they don’t seem to take themselves too seriously.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJaHZOIaEpc
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7inXAW79ik
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8DtgpptQ8o (this video has sync issues. sorry.)
This isn’t to say that the other listed bands aren’t talented in their own ways. I saw Petra perform on their farewell tour and was completely blown away. They appeared completely sincere in their ministry, and were excellent musicians.
I used to be a bit of a skillet fan, but their music has changed over the years, and I haven’t really kept up with them.
I’ve heard the Newsboys are excellent performers, and put on a great show. I find myself a bit annoyed at some of their lyrical content, however I’ve also heard that they are very serious about their ministry.
    I’m not familiar with Eleventyseven
In my experience(this is, I believe, the most important part of my answer), music is about taste. Something I don’t like may appeal greatly to someone else. This doesn’t make my music better, or theirs worse. It just means that we look for different things when we listen to music or go to shows. Our tastes differ. I wish more people understood this, and were understanding or perhaps even appreciative of the differences they have with fans of other genres.
Thanks for sitting through this incredibly long, Five Iron Frenzy injected answer. :) Whatever music you prefer, enjoy it!

  501. donkeyju on August 4th, 2009 3:16 am

WOW, im sorry i don’t have an answer, but I’m not sure really, in a way it’s kind of like saying, “is singing a hymn a prayer?” if so , I guess if their songs revolve around God, it would be too.

It would be great to hear them on mainstream radio. Casting Crowns has an awesome lead singer and the rest of the band is just GREAT!! I don’t think that their labels want to keep them out though. It’s all the other “Atheist” or whatever you want to call them, that demand separation. How sad that a country who’s foundation was built on religion cant get people to believe. I say pack their **** and send them somewhere else. Great question. How was your thanksgiving?

  538. Lady UT on August 5th, 2009 12:40 am

I like them both – but dont know that they would fly mainstream…. and its usually up to the artist where they sillicit thier songs….when songs are big enough that they really touch everyone they do cross lines like MercyMe – I can only imagine and a few jars of clay songs have done it Stacy Orico did when she was around
It could be a good thing – but if you look back on people who really tried to play in both markets it didnt do too well for them – the ones I can think off of the bat ar Staci O. and P.O.D. both who became more influenced negatively and eventually dropped off of the map rather than moving more positively….
it may be able to work it would just need a lot of thinking and planning and changing….

Finally, seeing him and his family on Larry King Live talking about the tradgedy and thinking that only God can bring a family thru like He has brought the Chapman’s through….they don’t curse God, they don’t blame God….they continue to honor Him and realize that in a fallen world, tragedy happens.

Some of their newer music doesn’t appeal to me as much but I still love the group and there are still those songs which remind me of the older Newsboys.

Phil Joel, Jeff Frankenstein, Duncan Phillips, Jody Davis make up the awesome Christian rock band, Newsboys. Duncan Phillips leads the group. Gotta love when they jam on “The Ranch” with John and Sherry! I’d also love to take the K-Love Cruise which they always participate in! Blessings to you!
